#3: We Just Rolled Past $2M
The SMART Tire Company just hit another milestone! Thanks to YOU, we have recently reached the 2 million dollar mark, most of it from crowdfunding! We're so appreciative of this record pace we're on! Thanks for believing in our company and our mission to make a huge impact in the industry. So far, we are averaging $1M per month in crowd-fundraising. A-MAZING! Technology from Mars, right down to Earth... let's keep it rolling!
Mars Rover 2026
The tire of the future? We think so. The SuperElastic Tire was originally developed by NASA for upcoming Moon and Mars Rover missions. Past rovers used thin aluminum tires which eventually developed cracks and holes due to the tough Mars terrain.
NASA's Perseverance rover, which safely landed on Mars, February 18, 2021, uses a rocker-bogie wheel system to enable it to go over some terrain, but with certain limitations. Although the aluminum tires are a bit stronger than previous rovers, future tires made from shape memory alloys will enable larger, longer lasting rovers on Mars, that will no longer need six wheels, but only four. With an expected launch date of 2026, SMA tires will debut in outer space on the Mars Fetch Rover (shown in the rendered video above), and become the future platform for larger vehicles.
In addition to the exciting terrestrial uses for shape memory alloy tires that The SMART Tire Company plans to bring to market, federal research & development continues within the Mars Rover program. One day, the first human missions to Mars may feature vehicles with these tires, carrying an astronaut on the first ever scenic drive across the Red Planet!
